TRAINING
EWP TRAINING
EWP training, or Elevated Work Platform training, provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely operate various types of elevated work platforms. This training covers legislative requirements, hazard identification and management, and the specific operation and safety features of different EWP types. While not mandatory in New Zealand, EWP operators must be deemed competent in safe operation, and training is often required to obtain an EWP license or operator's certificate.
Key aspects of EWP training:
-
Legislative Requirements: Understanding relevant codes of practice and regulations for using EWPs.
-
Types of EWPs: Learning about different platform types (e.g., scissor lifts, boom lifts, trailer-mounted lifts) and their suitability for various tasks.
-
Safety Features: Familiarizing with safety devices, pre-start checks, and emergency procedures.
-
Hazard Management: Identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards associated with EWP operation.
-
Practical Skills: Developing hands-on skills in operating EWPs safely and effectively.
-
Emergency Procedures: Learning about rescue plans and retrieval systems in case of accidents.
-
Refresher Training: In New Zealand, EWP licenses or certificates require periodic refresher training, typically every three years, according to DT Driver Training.
